Demystifying the IDD

Some five years on from the introduction of the Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD), there is still some uncertainty around its implications and how solicitors and conveyancing professionals can best meet their clients’ needs.

One of the key questions we are asked is whether or not you need to get multiple quotes when obtaining legal indemnity insurance. The simple answer is, you don’t.

The main emphasis of the Directive is actually quite simple: to ensure customers are given clear information about the policy they’re buying and to focus on the quality of cover provided and claims service, rather than simply focusing on price. The IDD makes no explicit mention of any requirement to obtain multiple quotes. The SRA’s guidance for firms arranging legal indemnity cover simply highlights that they should review their insurance provider(s) periodically to ensure they’re still suitable for their target market.

The good news for legal professionals approaching Isis Conveyancing is that they are already complying with the IDD. We offer a huge range of policies providing comprehensive cover at extremely competitive premiums, and all underwritten by Liberty Legal Indemnities – a UK regulated ‘A’ rated insurer. Alongside this, the quality of service from our underwriting team means that however you choose to contact Isis, we will be able to provide a quote quickly. Title issues can often materialise at the eleventh hour, and our swift response can be crucial in helping to avoid unnecessary and frustrating delays late in the property purchasing process. Factor in the experience of our in-house claims team, who deal with all claims on our policies, managing the entire process on behalf of the insured and Liberty, and you can be confident that you are acting in the best interests of your client when you obtain a quote or policy from us.

Of course, we appreciate that firms will always have their own preferences when it comes to arranging insurance. So whichever approach you take, whether Isis is one of your providers, or your only source for a legal indemnity quotation, you can be confident that, with us, they will receive the best all-round service, from quotation to claims payment.
