What’s in a name?

“That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet”. Whether or not we’re fragrant is neither here nor there, but as Shakespeare’s Juliet noted, a name has no impact on who you are.

The name game

While it’s relatively simple for an individual to change their name, what Juliet failed to acknowledge is the nightmarish administrative implications for an established company to change their name!

When Isis Conveyancing Insurance Specialists started out in 2006, the company was actually named after a band that the directors used to play in, and back then, there were no negative connotations attached to the name.

Title trouble

In the last couple of years, since the terror group (properly known as ISIL) has risen to prominence, we’ve been increasingly asked whether we’re considering altering our name. Some have even asked us for confirmation that we have no connection to the terrorist group!

As it is, we have no intention of changing our name. While we appreciate that perhaps to members of the public, our moniker may give rise to the odd tongue-in-cheek comment, it’s fairly obvious that this humble insurance company based in Norwich has nothing to do with the similarly named and notorious international organisation.
